31 Days Of Horror: Day 11 (THE HOWLING - 1981)

The Howling

Along with An American Werewolf in London, this film set a new standard in werwolf effects. In The Howling, news reporter Karen White (played by Dee Wallace) helping the police trap psychopath Eddie Quist (played by Robert Picardo). Karen's confrontation with Eddie causes her to have selective amnesia and admits herself to this posh recovery resort ran by Dr. Waggner (Patrick Steed). Little does Karen know, this place is a haven for werewolves. And she realizes she has to let the world know they exist. But surviving the night is her first step. Wicked horror movie that has some amazing werewolf transformation scenes and also some black humor. Followed by several inferior sequels. Stick with the original. It's by far the best. And does it not have one of the coolest movie posters ever? Hell yeah!

31 Days of Horror - Day 12 (CUJO)

Cujo
It's synergy today on my blogs. On All Good Things, I posted about Cat People. And here I'm posting about a killer dog. A saint bernard gets bit by a bat and contracts rabies. A mother and her son take their car to the mechanic's shop and must endure a day long siege by the rabid mutt. Cujo was one of my favorite horror movies from the 80's and it still holds up today. Dee Wallace Stone, a mainstay of 80's movies such as E.T., The Howling, and Critters is perfect as the mom trying to save herself and her son. The attacks by Cujo are brutal and harrowing. Based on the Stephen King best-seller.

(1983) Starring Dee Wallace Stone, Danny Pintauro, Daniel Hugh Kelly, and Ed Lauter.
