2nd Annual 31 Days of Horror kicks off next week...

Just a post to remind everyone that October is fast approaching and my 2nd annual 31 days of Horror will be kicking off. I will post a short review and or facts and trivia about one horror movie a day. Or at least try to. Last year I did like 20, so I was a little short. But this year one of my good friends and blogger extraordinaire Jennifer Cooper will be lending a hand. You guys may know Jennifer from her wickedly cool blog, Musings of a Morleysaurus. She loves horror films so I know her expertise and knowledge will be a big plus here on Hero Worship. Here's the link to her blog: musings of a morleysaurus. I don't know what films she will be doing but here is a list of all the films I will be covering:
Underworld: Evolution
FRIGHT NIGHT (1985)
PANIC ROOM
LAIR OF THE WHITE WORM
FINAL DESTINATION 2
SCREAM 2
DOG SOLDIERS
THE HOWLING
WHAT LIES BENEATH
PSYCHO 2
CREEPSHOW
FEAST
UNDERWORLD 2
HOUSE OF 1000 CORPSES

Star Of The Month Gerard Butler in ROCKNROLLA (2008)

RocknRolla
The latest film from Guy Ritchie is another winner. The main plot has a Russian mobster trying to wrap up a major land deal in London with millions of dollars at stake. Well a London crime boss, a sexy accountant, and some inept thieves join the party and all hell breaks loose. The thieves are One Two (played by Gerard Butler) and Mumbles (played by Idris Elba) and others. The London crime boss is played by Tom Wilkinson. And the sexy accountant Stella is played by the gorgeous Thandie Newton. Things quickly get out of hand when the crime boss son, a wild rocker named Johnny is being sought by everyone for the painting he has in his possession. RocknRolla may not be as good as Ritchie's previous films but it is still a solid movie. Actually gets better as it goes along. My only complaint would be the sex scene between Butler and Newton..it is was too short, you blink and you will miss it. Still, check it out, it's a must see. Oh and look out for Tom  Hardy as Handsome Bob. Co-starring Tom Wilkinson, Gemma Arterton, and Mark Strong.

One Two: Well what do you want?
Stella: You.
One Two: Well you had better come in then.

Review: FANBOYS (2007)

Fanboys

Love this movie. Basically a road trip for Star Wars fans. It takes place in 1998, right around the time Phantom Menace is due to come out, a group of friends decide to travel to Skywalker Ranch and steal the film so their friend who is dying from cancer can see before his time expires. A lot of stuff happens on the way including a run in with some Trek fans in the birthplace of Captain Kirk, being pursued by a pimp in Vegas, performing at a gay bar, and other misadventures. In jokes and quotes are plentiful. The young cast is great including Sam Huntington (jimmy Olsen from Superman Returns), Dan Fogler (from Balls of Fury), Jay Baruchel (from Tropic Thunder), Chris Marquette (from The Girl Next door), and the sole girl of the group, Kristen Bell (Veronica Mars). Plus loads of cameos from William Shatner, Kevin Smith, Seth Rogen, Billy Dee Williams, and Jamie King. Truly hilarious.

Zoe: You might wanna hit the showers. 'Cause you smell like something shit *in* my nose.

Hutch: Yes, Your Highnessness.
[Hutch takes off his t-shirt]
Zoe: Ew! What in god's name is living on your chest? It looks like your fell on ALF

Hutch: Rule number one: In my van, it's Rush. All Rush, all the time. No exceptions. Rule number two: Nobody touch the red button. And I mean never touch the red button. Most importantly, rule number three: There's no jerking in my van. Fanboys (2008)

Star Of The Month: GERARD BUTLER

My man Gerard Butler is the star of the month for September. Butler shot to stardom with his role in 300 in 2007and has been churning out films ever since. But he was making movies long before then with roles in Tomb Raider 2, Reign of Fire, Dracula 2000 and his first film, Mrs. Brown with the awesome Judi Dench. Expect reviews, photos and videos of him all month long.

DRAGON CON 2011

People lining up for the parade...

Went to Dragon Con over Labor Day weekend in Atlanta, GA, which was my 2nd time in three years. And it was just as awesome as the first time. A few hiccups happened along the way such as camera issues which caused a lot of blurry pictures. And standing in the long ticket line caused us to be late for the start of the parade as we had to settle for some terrible viewing spots. But other than those issues, we had a great time. Stephanie was able to come this time and a friend of mine from high school came as well. Stephanie was able to get a pic with Loni Anderson but thanks to our camera, it came out blurry. She did get Loni to autograph one of her pics though. I did get to meet Kristin Bauer (Pam from True Blood, who is my favorite from the show). I was able to take a pic of her and my friend which made Kim very happy. I got myself in between some stormtroopers which turned out ok. I saw Eliza Dushku (Faith) but there we way too many people in line for her. Also saw Mary McConnell and Tricia Helfer (Battlestar Galactica), and Laura Vandervoort (Smallville, V). We saw a lot of people in vampire makeup and several cool Joker (Heath Ledger style) costumes. Not too many Batman though. And this was the 25th anniversary of Dragon Con. That is probably why is more people than usual. Next year we will have a better camera and be better prepared.
